Story of Yi Mongryong in King's Throne

"Yi Mongryong is a dedicated student who isn't easily distracted by little nuances. He aspired to be as accomplished as his father, a high-ranking official. That is, until he fell in love at first sight. When he failed to pique her attention, Mongryong visited her parents and pleaded for her hand in marriage. Since their relationship was not accepted by society due to their class differences, they married in secret until he fulfilled his state examination, whereby he was then able to marry her legitimately. Mongryong did this knowing that he would betray the expectations of his family, but persevered to be with her. During Mongryong's absence, his lover was sought after by a governor whom she refused. In an act of vengeance, the governor condemned her to death. Mongryong reappeared just in time to save her and punish the corrupt governor, and they both lived peacefully ever after."
